Age UK and Mental Health during the second lockdown:
"During this second lockdown older people will be facing an extremely tough winter and there is a risk that their mental health will decline. Our research shows that the pandemic has already taken its toll, with a third of older people saying they feel more anxious than they used to, and some have told us they’re scared of leaving home, feel they’ve lost purpose and that their lives will never be the same again.
We are working with NHS England on their Help Us to Help You campaign, which is encouraging older people to get the help they need with their mental health. We know that some older people find it hard to recognise the symptoms of mental health conditions, and some can find it difficult to ask for help, for fear of being a burden or wasting people's time. You can make sure your older constituents are aware of the support available and encourage them to seek help if they need it.
Our website has lots of information and support for anyone who is struggling with their mental health. You can share this information with your constituents by using the pre-prepared social media post below."
Frankie Wilks, Age UK.
Penny Mordaunt MP added; "I know many of my older constituents have been feeling anxious and low during the pandemic. If you or someone you know have felt like this, please do reach out for help - there is support available."
