Penny Mordaunt MP hosts Soccer Aid reception at Downing Street

Penny Mordaunt MP and Prime Minister Theresa May hosted a reception for representatives of Soccer Aid, including Olly Murs, Usain Bolt as well as schools who have taken part in raising funds for the Unicef project.

Penny Mordaunt said; "Soccer Aid is a game like no other. Over the last 12 years, the £24 million raised through Soccer Aid has helped Unicef be there for more children than any other humanitarian organisation. They’re providing life-saving food, vaccines, clean water and protection from violence to millions of children around the world. But there’s more to do. That’s why I’m proud to host Soccer Aid and their representatives alongside the Prime Minister.

Through my department, I’ve been supporting fundraising to help this work with Unicef. Recently we launched the ‘The blindfold keepy-uppy challenge.’ Patrons such as Olly Murs and Usain Bolt are doing a great job promoting this. The UK Government will double your donation. It’s fun, but importantly is raising the profile and money needed to help those in need.”

On Friday 8th June, thousands of children in school playgrounds across the UK will kick, bounce or carry a ball round an obstacle course that they’ve designed.

Penny added, “I’m looking forward to watching local Portsmouth students at the Admiral Lord Nelson school on Friday take up the challenge.
