Business Disability Forum has achieved Disability Confident Leader status, making them one of the top performers under the scheme.

Minister of State for Disabled People, Penny Mordaunt MP, handed over the certificate in person at Business Disability Forum’s annual conference on 11 April.

Business Disability Forum sees Disability Confident as a key stage in becoming disability-smart. It points to its own Disability Standard, a renowned tool for assessing performance across whole organisations, as another important step.

Having achieved Disability Confident Leader status, Business Disability Forum will continue to measure and build on its work around disabled people, using its own advice service as a key source of expert guidance.

Diane Lightfoot, Chief Executive Officer of Business Disability Forum, welcomed the accreditation and said that Disability Confident was a useful step for any organisation hoping to become disability-smart.

The Minister for Disabled People, Work and Health, Penny Mordaunt, said:

“It’s great that the Business Disability Forum has become a Disability Confident Leader. Being Disability Confident means breaking down the barriers which for too long have held disabled people back, and ensuring everyone has the opportunity to succeed in life.

“Over the last year alone almost 300,000 disabled people have entered work, but there is more to do to halve the disability employment gap. Employers must ensure they don’t miss out on some of the best talent in their community. Disabled people make up a significant proportion of the potential workforce and by extending these opportunities, we can have a Britain that works for everyone.”
