Diane Lightfoot, Chief Executive Officer of Business Disability Forum, welcomed the accreditation and said that Disability Confident was a useful step for any organisation hoping to become disability-smart.

Diane said:

“Being accredited as a Disability Confident Leader is a proud achievement. That said we always feel that such recognition should be a driver for further progress.

“For our Members and Partners, the message is always to follow Disability Confident with a constant programme of review, improvement and commitment to build on that success. Our own Disability Standard forms a major next step to best practice, taking an organisation-wide approach to embedding disability practice.”

The Minister for Disabled People, Work and Health, Penny Mordaunt, said:

“It’s great that the Business Disability Forum has become a Disability Confident Leader. Being Disability Confident means breaking down the barriers which for too long have held disabled people back, and ensuring everyone has the opportunity to succeed in life.

“Over the last year alone almost 300,000 disabled people have entered work, but there is more to do to halve the disability employment gap. Employers must ensure they don’t miss out on some of the best talent in their community. Disabled people make up a significant proportion of the potential workforce and by extending these opportunities, we can have a Britain that works for everyone.”
